China - Day 2

Day 2 was spent sightseeing around Guangzhou...in 100 degree weather.
First stop was the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.

The next stop was the Guangzhou market.  I'm not gonna lie - it was not my most favorite place to visit.  There were all kinds of live animals, reptiles, insects, etc. for sale.
Did I mention it was about 100 degrees???

Turtles are a symbol of long life - and taste good in soup
(so we were told - we'll take their word for it).

There were also rabbits, pigeons, chipmunks
and ducklings for sale

Dried lizards - a local delicacy and good to stir the soup with

Huge vats of live scorpions

Dad celebrated Father's Day with a bottle of rice wine :-)

Hannah was a pro with the chopsticks but wasn't impressed
with the entire fish that was placed in front of her!!!

It was an interesting day to say the least.
Makes you really appreciate what you have at home!!

Tomorrow is Maggie Day!!!  We meet our group in the lobby at 2pm and then take a short bus ride to the government office where our babies will be presented to us.  Please send good thoughts our way and pray that Maggie has an easy transition!!!

  1. I'm on the blog every morning about every 15 minutes and thrilled when I see an update. Maggie will be getting a phenomenal mother who was taught by one of the best. I'm off to noon Mass and will offer Communion and Mass to a successful transition and a lifetime of happiness.

  3. Happy 1st Birthday to our beautiful, Maggie. We have waited so long for you and are so happy that you are finally part of our family. You have lots of aunts, uncles, cousins who love you and are waiting to see you. Hurry home. Your first birthday present is being with your beautiful Mom. She has waited and prayed for you and now God has brought you together. This is just the start of many happy birthdays together. All our love is being sent to you today.

  4. Glad to hear it is all official. I can see how she is warming up to you,Suzie, you can feel the love between you already. Tom looked like a pro holding Maggie, and I am sure she will soon warm up to Grampa. We are going to have 90 degree plus weather here today. Jill is already at the beach, and I will go later to visit with Diane Ewing and cousin, Judy. Jill saw the movie, "Rock of Ages" last night. She liked it, but liked the play better. Miss you all.
