China - Day 6

We didn't have any appointments today so our guide offered to take us to the Guangzhou Yuexiu Park.  It's kind of like the Central Park of Guangzhou.  On our way out of the hotel we heard some drumming and saw some lion dancers across the street.  They were celebrating the grand opening of a new building, had the red carpet out and were putting on quite a show.  It was so hot - I don't know how they could even stand to be inside those costumes but they were dancing all over the place!

The park was huge and very beautiful.  It's covers over 200 acres and is full of rolling hills and small lakes.  It is mainly known for the statue of The Five Rams - legend has it that five fairies rode into town on the rams and brought rice to the starving people of Guangzhou.  As the fairies flew away, the rams turned to stone but the city was blessed and would no longer suffer from famine.

Unfortunately it was such a hot and steamy day that we didn't really get to enjoy the park as much as we would like to.  Hopefully we can get back there one day next week.  Good thing is my girl is such a trooper.  Despite the brutal temps she was a happy, happy girl.

We came across a group of adults all playing hacky sack in the park.  It's very popular here and they use something that looks similar to a badminton birdie.  The guy in the white shirt put on quite a show and was bouncing the hacky sack back and forth, spinning and jumping and finally making it land on his forehead!  Our friend Hannah in the blue shirt was a natural at it!!!

Bed head :-)

Maggie is finally warming up to her Grandpa!!!  He got to hold her for a whole 30 seconds before she started to cry.  My guess is that she will have him in the palm of her hand before the end of this trip!!

My beautiful girl

We went out to dinner on Shamian Island at a place called Lucy's.  They serve "American" food that didn't really taste as good as real American food but the good news was that nothing that we ordered came with the head still on it!  Maggie still won't let any solid food pass through her lips but she is drinking more formula each and every day.  We need to fatten up this skinny girl!!

I know I keep saying it but I can't believe how well we are adjusting to each other.  Maggie is so easy going and really only fusses when she is hungry or needs her diaper changed.  She gives us more smiles every day, has started to babble like crazy and her crawling skills have improved tremendously since Monday.  She has the sweetest little personality.  When I received her on Monday, the orphanage director told me that she was a sweet and gently baby and it is so true!  I am so in love with this little angel!!!

  2. I am amazed at what a natural you are as a new Mother. I think this is why Maggie is responding so well. It is amazing what love can do. We can see her transformation each day. She must be thinking how her world has changed in such a short time. Loved the video of her babbling. I videotaped Jill doing this when she was little and she loved watching it over and over again as she got older. I am sure Aunt Katie and Uncle Tom are missing Maggie, too. Hopefully, the week will go fast. Glad she is warming up to Grandpa. She is a beautiful, little girl and we can't wait to see her in person.
